From high-speed car chases patrolling the streets of Tallaght to award-winning stage acting performances, Mullingar’s John ‘Banjo’ Quinn has done it all.
He spent 30 years with An Garda Síochána, 15 as a detective, but the excitement and lure of acting was always on his mind, like an itch that couldn’t be scratched.
Now just 59 years old with acting credits in Fair City, Love/Hate and more, he’s finally fulfilled his aspirations as an entertainer that began during the 70s as a student in Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar.
It was then that Banjo took part in two school plays; the one he remembers vividly was a minor role in Seán O’Casey’s The Shadow of a Gunman which centres around an IRA assassin.
