Mullingar man Christopher Murphy is preparing for a leap of faith next Sunday as he undertakes his first ever parachute jump to raise funds for MS Ireland.
Chris, aged 20, suffers from MS (Multiple sclerosis) and is delighted to assist in fundraising for the charity, though he readily admits that he’s facing into Sunday’s parachute jump in Clonbullogue, Co Offaly, with a degree of trepidation. However, he will have the support of family and friends for the event and will be joined by up to 12 people, including his mother Karen and auntie Laura.
Chris held a coffee morning in The Galway Roast, Mullingar on Tuesday, 4 April, where a sponsorship card was sold, while 30 cent of each large coffee purchased was donated to the charity. Staff also volunteered their tips on the day to the very worthy cause.
“There’s up to 12 people joining me for the jump and it should be a great experience. I decided to do something to raise funds for MS Ireland and I’m delighted with the support I have received here today,” said Chris, thanking all at The Galway Roast for organising the fundraiser.
“It’s my first time to do a parachute jump and there’s a mixture of nerves and excitement at the thought of it, but it should be great,” he added.
Multiple Sclerosis Ireland is the only national organisation providing information, support and advocacy services to the MS community and they work with patients and their families to provide important services. There are over 9,000 people suffering from MS in Ireland and it effects the central nervous system causing complications that can effect mobility and balance, although it’s said that no two patients experience the same symptoms.
