They may have been the last to appear, but Mullingar brothers, Enda and Paul Keating, were by no means the least, when they premiered their latest film on Friday night’s ‘Late Late Toy Show’.
Presenter Ryan Tubridy commended the boys on their patience, before asking them to demonstrate how they used their ‘camera drones’ (flying cameras) to create their Christmas-themed film.
Enda told Ryan that it took a little while to master the drone, but he soon got the hang of it. “It’s hard to control when your learning how to use it, but when you get used to it, its not so bad. I also used my iPod to make the film.”
Ryan ended the show by giving the brother’s ‘Best Toy Show Film Actor Ever’ and ‘Best Toy Show Film Director Ever’ award.
It was a dream come true for Enda, a fifth class pupil of St Mary’s Primary School pupil, and his brother, Paul, a pupil of Presentation School, who were selected to take part in the show.
His mother, Rosemarie, told Topic how it all started. “Enda, sent in a little movie clip he made, using the Imovies app called ‘Spy Brothers’, which featured his brother, Paul, after his friend suggested they apply to appear on the show.”
The producers then got in touch to ask the boys in for an interview, and two weeks later, the family were informed that they had been successful and would feature on the Christmas must-see.
“They asked Enda to make a new film for the Toy Show, so they sent him three camera drones and a two other little cameras. They loved learning how to use them, but I was a little worried about them getting broken because they were going to charity after the film was made.”
Rosemarie said the pair were thrilled to be appearing on the annual toy-filled extravaganza and talked about it non-stop. “They were so excited to be on the Toy Show and it’s a fantastic memory that they’ll have forever.”
Rosemarie said that while Enda has never been overly interested in watching movies, he has always loved to create them. Talking about the film that was featured on the Toy Show, she said, “It was a Christmas themed video where his little sister dressed up as Elsa from Frozen. She wakes up on Christmas morning to find that her Christmas stocking is empty, so she goes outside to see if she can find Santa. Enda then used the drone to give the effect of Santa flying in the sky and also to film the next scene where Elsa comes out the door and chases after Santa to get her present. They all really enjoyed doing it.”
According to RTÉ, this year’s Toy Show attracted an average of 1.36 million viewers, the largest on Irish television so far this year and higher than last year’s record figures.
