Passers-by at All Saints Church, Mullingar were treated to the rich sound of Mullingar Choral Society, which resumed rehearsals for the 2023 season last week.
The group, which has been in existence since 1969, is under the careful stewardship of its President Stephen Cummins, who spoke of the joy at returning to full capacity last year, following the removal any remaining Covid restrictions. “Following the dropping of all Covid guidelines, the group convened a meeting last summer,” he said.
“We were curious to see who would turn up and if there was an appetite to get back to rehearsing in person. Thankfully 42 people turned up. We decided at that point that would just plan for our Christmas concert and see what would happen.”
The group’s Christmas concert, conducted by Fintan Farrelly, proved to be a resounding success. “It was one of the largest concert we’ve ever had. We had 65 people in the choir, and the feedback was very positive. I think it’s fair to say there’s still an appetite for what we’re doing.”
