A wonderful musical treat is coming our way on Friday, 24 November. The Lynn Singers’ Winter Concert is being held at 7.30pm in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar.
The choir of young local ladies has been directed and developed to a level of excellence by Dervilla Conlon Maloney and has achieved top awards in both national and international festivals of late.
The evening will provide a programme of choral and chamber music gleaned from many countries and continents, which spans a wide spectrum from sacred music to some of Ola Gjeilo’s popular choral works and ethnic folk repertoire.
The world class Irish Chamber String Quartet will be joining the choir on the night and we can expect their usual sterling performance of a lively programme, as well as collaborating with the Lynn Singers. These featured guests have achieved international acclaim, and Mullingar is indeed fortunate to have them here.
Also joining the Lynn Singers is the superb male vocal ensemble, Vocative. These are a renowned group of professional choral singers and soloists, who will add to what promises to be an exceptional night of music.
The Cathedral Choristers, directed again by Dervilla Conlon Maloney, will be on hand to participate on the night, providing another lively element to our enjoyment.
Charles Marshall, the resident accompanist for the Lynn Singers, will feature with his usual dedication and expertise. This year, no less than any other, the choir and committee seek not only to entertain but also to help those amongst us who are less fortunate. This year, in the run up to the Christmas season, they have chosen to support the Mullingar Lions Club Christmas projects from the proceeds of the concert.
Don’t forget to put Friday, 24 November, into the diary for an uplifting night’s entertainment. Tickets are available from Topic Newsagents, Just Books, the Cathedral Shop, and committee members. Make your way to the Cathedral on 24 November – it will be a night to remember.
