A storming finish secured the Féile na nÓg football title for an impressive Coralstown/ Kinnegad side at Cusack Park last Friday. The victors scored two late goals to put the seal on a fine display, after a determined effort by neighbours Killucan, in what was a highly entertaining final.
Coralstown/Kinnegad now advance to represent Westmeath at this year’s national Féile na nÓg in Wexford and on the evidence of their display here, they certainly have the ability to acquit themselves well. They led by a point at half-time (1-4 to 0-6) and survived a very determined fightback by Killucan in the second half to take the honours.
Considering there was just a point between the sides entering the last quarter, the final scoreline is certainly harsh on a spirited Killucan side, that led by 1-6 to 1-4 early in the second half. Scott Darcy’s goal, following a great move, made it 3-6 to 1-8 in Coralstown/Kinnegad’s favour with 14 minutes remaining before Colm Murray and the impressive Jack Torpey added late majors.
Afterwards, a delighted Shane Fleming accepted the cup from Seamus Browne, Chairman of Coiste na nÓg Iarmhí and Coralstown/Kinnegad celebrated a deserved victory.
