Woman dies following accident on motorway outside Kinnegad

A woman died following a two car collision that occurred at approximately 1.20am on Saturday morning last, 13 February, on the M4 motorway near Kinnegad.
It is believed that two cars, travelling in the east bound lane, collided at Rossan, Kinnegad.
The woman who died at the scene was later named as Jacqueline Wolohan (51), a widow from Coolock, Co Dublin, and a mother of three children. Three other passengers in the woman’s car, including the woman’s 14-year old son, were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, where they were treated for their injuries.
It is understood that the second vehicle involved in the accident was being driven by an off-duty Garda who was later brought to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Due to the fact that a Garda was involved in the accident, this led to the accident being investigated by the Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).
The M4 motorway was closed for a number of hours, following the accident, so the scene could be technically examined. Traffic travelling in the direction of Dublin was then diverted up the slip road on the approach to Kinnegad, and onto the old N4 road.
The M4 motorway was re-opened later on Saturday afternoon.
The investigation into the accident is continuing and GSOC is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on 1890 600 800. They have also requested that anyone who may have seen a blue Opel Astra car, with a 2005 registration, or a silver Nissan Micra car, with a 2004 registration, travelling on the eastbound side of the M4 at about 1.30am on Saturday, to contact them.
