A new walkway was unveiled at the Castletown Geoghegan GAA grounds, Páirc Mhic Eochagain, last Friday, officially recognising a fine addition to the facilities which will benefit the entire community of Castletown Geoghegan.
It provides a safe walking facility for the people of Castletown Geoghegan and greatly enhances the facilities already in place.
Eamonn Clarke of the Castletown Geoghegan Hurling Club, paid tribute to Nicholas Jones and his late wife Kitty who donated the ground for the new walkway. They also donated the space necessary for a second pitch which is vital for the local community. Local publican, Barney Drake was also complimented for his role in the project.
“The greater community of Castletown Geoghegan is very grateful for this outstanding contribution. A lot of people use the walkway facility who mightn’t necessarily be in the GAA. It’s a huge asset to us and a few years’ back I was speaking to Nico (Nicholas) Jones and then mentioned it to Barney Drake and between them they said they wanted to meet up with us,” remarked Mr Clarke.
