Castletown-Geoghegan residents fear being overwhelmed if population doubles

The prospect of a significant rise in population to the village of Castletown-Geoghegan with the arrival of asylum seekers is causing widespread distress to local residents, who gathered in the village hall last Wednesday evening for a local area meeting, followed by a public demonstration on Saturday morning.

The meeting was called amid mounting speculation that the Middletown Park complex on the edge of the village is to be used to accommodate asylum seekers in the near future.
