Diarmuid Staunton from Coralstown led the Irish rugby team out alongside captain Peter O’Mahony for their Six Nations win against Wales in the Aviva stadium on Saturday, 24 February. Diarmuid earned the honour by winning a national art competition. The Coralstown local drew a picture of former Ireland captain, Jonathan Sexton scoring a match-winning, last-minute drop goal against France in the 2018 Six Nations.
“Everyone in Mullingar is talking about how Diarmuid is good at both rugby and drawing. It’s not every day someone from our town gets to do something this cool,” said John Keane from Mullingar Rugby Club. “It shows that if you work hard and love what you do, you can do amazing things,” he said.
