A proposal to have Peter Leahy installed as the new manager of the Westmeath senior footballers was rejected by club delegates at a County Board meeting in Cusack Park last Wednesday.
It means an alternative proposal must now be brought before clubs again at a future meeting, which may take place as early as next week. County Board Chairman, Sean Sheridan outlined the proposal to last week’s gathering, stressing: “our budget is very scarce and we have to look at our budgets when we’re doing all these things.”
Mr Sheridan then proposed the following management team: “manager, Peter Leahy; coach, Liam McHale from Mayo; selectors, Tommy Kelly and Micheál Reynolds.”
Two more people were to be added for the under 21s, the chairman explained.
