Death of Dublin “fish lady” who came to Mullingar each week

Selling fresh fish each Thursday in Mullingar from their trading stall  in Dominick Street is a tradition which Egan’s fish sellers from Dublin began almost a century ago and still continue, and the person who started it all was Connie Egan in 1926, assisted by her sister, Alice.

The weekly visits to Mullingar have been continued over the decades since then and many local people who were well acquainted with the lady  from whom they bought their fish for almost four decades, will regret to learn of her death, at her home in Ballyboughal, Dublin, on 10 October last.
