Dempsey in the front seat for Championship glory

Mullingar native Jordan Dempsey is about to embark on one of the biggest moments of his motorsport career to date. Having received his Junior Certificate results last week, the 15-year-old Mullingar Community College student travels to Mondello Park in Kildare this weekend, leading the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship by just two points.
Jordan is no stranger to motorsport, a third generation of successful competitors both his father (Morgan Jnr) and Grandfather (Morgan Snr) were established and highly successful competitors themselves and champions in former years. Growing up surrounded by racing cars and racing engines, Jordan began to fuel his passion for motorsport at the tender age of 10 in karting. Enjoying success from an early stage, Dempsey jumped at the opportunity to progress into cars in 2014, joining his father’s team, MCP, for the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship.
In his maiden season, Dempsey instantly marked himself out as one to watch; three fastest laps and four podiums, crucially one on the top step, added his name to the history books as the youngest car race winner in Ireland. The real highlight to his season came in September, in the form of a nomination for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year award. Each year, six drivers are nominated for the scholarship which is valued at almost €50,000, with Jordan being the youngest ever nominee to date.
Returning to the series in 2015, Jordan’s aim was clear from the start, to become the Ginetta Junior Ireland Champion.
Dominant performances in both Kirkistown and Mondello Park, securing multiple race wins and lap records during the season at both circuits, have placed the youngster in a prime position to write another chapter in the Dempsey family motorsport history books.
Having already been nominated for the Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year award for the month of June, Dempsey’s winter will be busy as he carries out the interview process for the award, while also evaluating a potential trip to the UK to compete in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series in Snetterton, Norwich.
Jordan’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed by many, through the support of Mullingar Car Pre-Testing, Kildare Crash Centre Limited and P1 : Digital, Dempsey has been able to complete the series and place himself in an enviable position to many of his fellow rivals.
