At Monday’s Municipal District Council meeting in Mullingar, County Council officials confirmed that work on the €3m enhancement scheme for the town centre is expected to go ahead in August, and that the work will continue for nine months rather than six, as previously thought.
Local business people are seriously concerned about the impact of the new scheme on their livelihoods – particularly in light of the expected traffic disruption and the curtailment of existing traffic flow and parking in the town while work is in progress. They are also uncertain about the longer-term effects of the changes being made.
