Former Westmeath detective says more could have been done to solve case

Ian Bailey — prime suspect in Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s murder — died in Bantry, County Cork on Sunday, 21 January aged 66.

Madame du Plantier was found bludgeoned to death on the morning of 23 December outside her holiday home in Goleen, County Cork in 1996. Ian Bailey had moved to Goleen from Manchester along with his partner, Jules Thomas, in 1991.
