Local sisters have hair chopped for worthy cause

In what is a truly thoughtful process for anyone to undertake, two local sisters parted with their flowing long hair last Tuesday, 15 July, all in the name of a worthy children’s cancer charity.

Sisters, Bridget Tormey and Lisa Nolan had been growing their hair for some time, and were naturally nervous about having it cut. “It’s taken almost five years to get it this long, so it’s a big change to have it shortened,” said Bridget.
The sisters, who are originally from Leixlip, Co. Kildare, explained what prompted them to decided to donate their hair for charity, as well as why they decided to single out the Little Princess Trust as their chosen charities.
“We did look at other charities which take hair donations for those with alopecia, however donating to a children’s cancer charity felt much better,” said Lisa, who along with her sister, had their hair shortened by the staff at Hair Shapes, Mount Street, who kindly donated their time for the worthy cause.
For Killucan-based Bridget, it was an extra-daunting affair to have her long hair cut, having married local man, Ryan Tormey, just days previously on Friday, 11 July!
The fundraising was for the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across Ireland and the UK who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. The charity’s most notable donator to date has been pop star Jessie J, who shaved her entire head for the charity.
“It costs roughly €500 to manufacture a custom wig for children, so our goal is to get ay least one manufactured,” said Lisa.
Anyone wishing to donate to Lisa and Bridget’s worthy cause can continue to do so by dropping into Hair Shapes on Mount Street, where donation forms will be available for the next number of weeks.
