Managers at Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar will continue to focus on the reduction of waiting times, despite mixed numbers on the hospital’s waiting list in the previous 12 months. Statistics show that in the year from January 2023 until January 2024, inpatients on the active waiting list increased by over 50%. There were 721 inpatients on the active waiting list in January 2023 compared to 1085 inpatients in January 2024, 30 of whom are children.
In comparison to other hospitals in the midlands, Portlaoise had a 21% increase whereas Tullamore had a 10% decrease in inpatients on the active waiting list, although at a higher figure of 1,465 in January 2024.
