In what must have been the experience of lifetime, one Mullingar girl was chauffeured around the city of Toronto last week, by one of the most sought-after house music DJs in the world.
Living in Canada’s largest city for the past three years, advertising executive, Ciara Mc Donnell, from Newlands, Mullingar, had never in her wildest dreams thought that she would be touring the streets of Toronto with Deadmau5. However through use of mobile taxi app, Uber, that changed last Wednesday, 10 September.
Having posted on Twitter that he would be signing up as an Uber driver for fun, the famous Canadian house music producer took to the streets of Toronto, chauffeuring his passengers around Canada’s largest city in his white McLaren 650S.
Mullingar-native, Ciara, wasn’t long joining the new mobile app, which allows customers to find a taxi service they require. For Ciara, this meant ordering numerous cabs, and cancelling them, a service free once done in under sixty seconds.
“I must have ordered at least twenty Uber cabs before eventually coming across Deadmau5 and hit order,” said a jubilant Ciara (26) who spoke with Topic by phone from Toronto earlier this week.
“Myself and a few friends were sitting at home in our pyjamas. There was after being a day of torrential rain and my hair was a mess but nevertheless, I scrubbed just in time for Deadmau5 arriving at my front door!”
Ever the persuasive ad-woman, Ciara, from Newland, Mullingar, managed to get Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) bring her on a cab trip which would go on to last for half an hour.
“We had a great chat for the trip and didn’t run out of things to talk about. I was hardly in his car when he spotted my Irish accent. I told him I was from a place called Mullingar, outside Dublin,” says Ciara, whose encounter with Deadmau5 last week wasn’t her first, having been to numerous college concerts.
“I had been to a concert of his in 2008 when I was a student in Sligo IT which shows how big he’s gotten in such a short space of time.”
After reaching her destination, Ciara bid farewell to her new-found world-famous friend
“When I got out of his car, I was quite starstruck, asking myself if it really happened,”enthused Ciara, who looks forward to returning home to Mullingar in time for Christmas this year.
“Deadmau5 might be out on the town in Mullingar for Christmas, you never know!”
