Mullingar Lions Club are holding their annual Summer Cycle on Bank Holiday Monday, 6 May. Registration takes place at Shandonagh GAA Centre from 8 am and the Cycle begins at 9 am. Event co-ordinator, Frank Dillon explained that there are two options to cater for all cyclists, after such inclement weather over the last six months:
There is a 90km route for those who want a longer spin and a 40km one for those who are anxious to get out on their bikes in the first week of summer and hopefully experience a little sunshine.
The 90km route sets out towards Athlone onto Ballymore and turning at ‘Corr Cross’, cycling onto Mount Temple and then into Moate where they will have a welcome food stop. We return home by road via Kilbeggan, Tyrrellspass, Rochfortbridge and back to Shandonagh.
Participants on the 40km route will cycle out the Greenway to Streamstown where the food stop is located and then return back along the Greenway.
Entry fee for both events is €30 with all proceeds similar to last year (2023), going towards Lions Club projects for respite and support of families with special needs and autism.
Frank explained that Mullingar Lions Club are delighted with the success of this important project where a number of families are benefiting from respite on a weekly basis, and gives much needed assessments and counselling, which is making a significant different to their lives at present.
Frank stated that this is a project that Mullingar Lions Club wish to expand and further develop. He said that this is made possible by the great generosity and goodwill of so many people in Mullingar. Mullingar Lions Club wishes to extend a huge Thank You to Everyone.
He concluded by inviting everyone to come out on the day, take part in the Cycle and enjoy the camaraderie and join in what we hope will be the start of a good summer experience.
