Successful launch of new book by Mullingar Author

By Claire Corrigan

THE launch of a new crime thriller by Mullingar author Patricia Gibney took place at Mullingar Arts Centre last Friday, 31 March, titled The Missing Ones.
A thrilled Patricia made sure to pay heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the launch such a great success, while paying special tribute to her late husband, Aidan.
“There are many of you here tonight who know my personal story and I want to thank you for your support and friendship through the years. I am a very lucky person. There is a time I wouldn’t have said that because as you know, I suffered the loss of my husband Aidan but I’m sure that he’s very happy for me tonight.”
The talented novelist said that she wanted to dedicate the book to her three children Aisling, Orla and Cathal. “They have traveled on this tough journey with me and tonight marks the start of a new journey as we have welcomed two grandchildren in the last few months.”
Patricia thanked her parents for their unwavering support over the years as well as her many friends who came to share together to celebrate her success.
The modest Mullingar woman revealed that she had worried in the run up to the launch that she would be greeted by an empty room for the launch at Mullingar Arts Centre. “I thought that the place would be empty and I’m absolutely delighted with the turnout.”
The book was launched by accomplished author Louise Phillips, who spoke of the deep friendship that exists between herself and Patricia.
“I am so pleased to be here this evening not only because Patricia is such a great friend, but because she is such a terrific writer as well and anyone who has read The Missing Ones will know that I met Patricia a number of years back at the Irish Writers’ Centre and lately I have been wondering if there is any end to her talents. She paints, she’s a writer of children’s book, has a background in drama and also a thoroughly amazing novel writer. I know her children are tremendously proud of her and that Aidan has been with her all the way lighting this very determined and creative spirit.”
Speaking to Topic, Patricia’s daughter Aisling said the family were very proud of her achievements. “Anyone could write a story and publish it but for it to actually do very well is amazing especially with everything she has been through.”
Patricia said she was astounded with the reaction to the book, which she said took five year to complete. “The book is online and is being sold all over the world but to do a launch here in Mullingar and for people to come out in support in such numbers is brilliant. I have three more books to write in a very short space of time, but I like to have a deadline because otherwise it could go on for another five years!”
