It was billed as the ‘Battle of Belvedere’ but the Ultimate Strongman competition to find Ireland’s Strongest Man saw the lakeside estate suffer some collateral damage when a fork-lift truck careened off the upper terrace at Belvedere House, destroying a Victorian wall and damaging the steps in front of the house. Both are historic structures dating back to the 1840s.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, June 21, as final preparations were being carried out for the strength and endurance event, which was moved to Belvedere this year from its previous Mullingar ‘home’ at Columb Barracks.
