Mullingar Library launched their Summer Reading Challenge on Wednesday, 4 June with the help of author and illustrator, Dolores Keaveney, and the support of the students from Mr McGuinness’ 4th class from St Mary’s C.B.S and Mrs Naughton’s 4th class from Presentation N.S.
Librarian, Cailin Gallagher, introduced the students to this year’s new safari themed Summer Reading Challenge and encouraged the students to take part throughout June, July and August. “Our goal is to read over 15,000 children’s books over the summer months and I know that the children of Mullingar can do it, they helped us win our Summer Reading Challenge last year and I have no doubt that they will help us win this year too.”
Miss Gallagher went on to describe the various treats and surprises that will be distributed to the readers throughout the summer, ending with the big draw at the end of August.
“The treats and surprises are rewards for readers throughout the summer but everyone will be entered into the draw at the end. It will not matter if you have read one book or a thousand, everyone will be in with a chance to win a prize.”
The launch continued with Dolores Keaveney giving a highly enter-taining and infor-mative talk on bees. She also inspired a lively debate amongst the children with ideas on how to write your own book.
